Successful Clothing Startups Always Do This!

What makes certain startup clothing brands succeed and others fail? The successful ones built for themselves multiple infallible strengths that the other companies haven’t considered, or worse, didn’t feel they needed to invest in. We will discuss below what takes a startup clothing company from infancy to a lifelong market leader!

1. Plan for the People.

Successful clothing startup brands will plan for their target demographic. They will iron out the vision of what kind of apparel they want to make, who to make it for and who they will use to make it. Designing the type of clothing that they want is just one of the steps, but ensuring that the demographic they are targeting can afford it, will find the fit and material comfortable is what will dictate the longevity of the clothing company itself. They use Tech Packs and provide their manufacturers with them in order to make the apparel perfect down to the last stitch.

Successful clothing companies keep the customers in mind at every stage, they want to balance affordability, quality and value of their apparel so that the customer will return to them season after season.

2. Don’t search for the cheapest clothing manufacturer.

You get what you pay for. This applies for almost everything in life and it is more clearly visible when it comes to private label manufacturers. Successful clothing brands know better than to just accept any quotation from a custom clothing manufacturer just because it is the cheapest compared to others. They know that they need a clothing manufacturer that will ensure the right materials, the proper GSM (grams per square meter), accurate stitching, little to no margin of error in their production, acceptable shipping times and great customer service. Low price clothing producers will always be deficient in one or more of those mentioned areas. Clothing brands that are profitable and maintain popularity are known for their perceived value of clothing, consistency and customer service. If they aren’t getting these key attributes from their clothing producer, it will not reflect in their company either! It’s a cascading effect.

Low cost suppliers doesn’t mean higher profits and longevity of the clothing brand!

3. They spend where spending is needed.

Successful clothing brands believe in their apparel and know that higher ordering higher quantities will effectively drive down their cost per unit, which enables higher profit margins on each garment. They know that spending on a tech pack once will ensure they produce their apparel with accuracy, consistency and reduce costs and time spend on trial and error in the future. They know that it takes money to make money and that if they don’t invest in the basic foundations of their business model, they will not achieve success in the future.
